About the Project
This project is required to counteract large thrust forces for two 14km long pipelines. Designed using concrete as a ballast, the project required an engineered thermal control plan to cure the mass concrete, including mitigations for the complexities of winter construction in Northern Alberta. In total, over 3,500m3 of concrete was placed into four blocks over a two-month span. The largest of the blocks required 26 hours of continuous placement; utilizing a small army of concrete truck drivers, two pumper trucks, and 4 pour crews – all on split-shifts to comply with OH&S regulations.
